ISO 22301 International Business Continuity Standard
Status of ISO 22301
ISO 22301:12 (ISO 22301) ’Societal security – Business continuity management systems – Requirements’ was launched on Wednesday 16 May 2012. This International Standard provides the requirements specification that sets out the details which should feature in a business continuity management programme to achieve recognised good practice. The associated guidance documents, ISO 22313, are expected to be released late 2012/ early 2013.
Transition from BS 25999
The British BCM Standard BS25999-2 will be withdrawn by BSI on 1st November 2012. The withdrawal is part of the management process required for the UK to officially accept ISO 22301 as the new National Standard for UK. A transition programme will be implemented which will effectively last 2 years with no BS 25999 certificates being issued after 2014. It is anticipated that certification to ISO 22301 will be available from late 2012/early 2013, including transition assessments for those organisations already certified to BS 25999.
